PASI2007 - Pan American Advanced Study Institute 2007
Electronic States and Excitations on Nanostructures

Zacatecas, Mexico, June 11 to June 22 (2007)

Welcome

The aim of this international Workshop is to bring together a series of experts in the field of electronic properties on nanostructures. Nanoscience and nanotechnology are areas growing very fast with contributions coming from industry as well as basic research. The popularity of nanoscience comes from many different applications which are taking modern technology by storm. As nanotechnology advances, efficient and reliable computation methods are required for the simulation of atomic structures of nanostructures and nanodevices, as well as for the prediction of their electronic states and excitations. These properties are crucial in the functioning of the systems and devices under normal conditions. First-principles calculations based on density functional theory and combination of orbitals have had widespread success throughout chemistry and condensed matter physics, and they offer the possibility of fulfilling the same role in this new field.

It is hoped that this PASI will be able to join experts in the field of electronic structure, from the experimental as well as the theoretical side. We hope to gather many different American Scientists coming from all the continent and exchange experiences, learn new methods and stablish collaborations.

This Workshop will take place in the beatiful city of Zacatecas, Mexico and it will be hold at the Hotel Emporio ( www.hotelesemporio.com ) in old town between June 11 up to June 22 in 2007. Most of the participants will stay at Hotel Meson de la Merced, two blocks away from the workshop hotel.

The support has been mostly given by the National Science Foundation with a Pan American School Institute Award.
